The Facts about online forums

One of the great things about online forums is the opportunity it creates to bring people together from around the world to share ideas and opinion about a specific subject matter.

Unfortunately all too often what should be presented as opinion is delivered as fact. While forums are a great resource to anyone looking to broaden their knowledge on a specific subject, they can also be a place where those same people can receive a great deal of misinformation.

Forums are fun. It is great to hear a variety of opinion and ideas. I love to share and take every opportunity I can to present my ideas about trading and the market. But I recognize that a forum is not a place to “learn to trade”. And you as a trader should recognize the same thing.

As you read through the forum you will find many people who will try to convince you that their opinion is fact. I would advise any trader to exercise caution. Consider the source of the post. Who are they? What experience do they have? Are they qualified to be giving advice? What you will find most of the time is the person providing advice has no verifiable credentials whatsoever. So before you go accepting their opinion at face value, ask yourself one more question,

“Is this person any more qualified to give advice than me?”

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering, yes, you should ask yourself the same question about this post. :-)

Interesting. I would suggest to take suggestions from the credible users who have great experience in forex market. Well, I like the points you mentioned in the post about the forums and its use.

But how do you understand whether this person has greater experience than you do?
We don't know anything about each other, we can just suppose.
What is even worse is that we spend more and more time in the Internet communicating with people we do not know and we will hardly ever know in spite of communicating with our frineds. It's especially true speaking about younger generation.
Though it's doubtless that due to it we can get more information about anything we are interested in.

This is so true. I like the idea of meeting people from around the world in a forum. It brings great knowledge and advice.

Too bad sometimes, in some forums, trolls are infesting.

I definately agree with the starter of this thread. One must be aware of the difference between facts and opinions. So one should always make up his own mind at best. Though Forums can really help to do that, however with caution.

I do not agree with your statement, you said that a forum is not good place for learning how to trading in forex. You are totally wrong about this, in forums, there are so many subforums that discussing about forex. we can learn from there. we can ask to other member about forex. I think that forums is good place because it's almost like a private teacher.

Forums can be a great source of information if one knows how to look for it and how to crosscheck said information.
