Can you really make money in forex?

I've read a lot about Forex, but I've never seen a proven profitable forex strategy, despite the claims of some scam web sites.

Playing Forex can appear alluring, but the majority of people who try it lose money. All you have to do is do a web search on the words "Forex" and "lose" to see this is the consensus.

Forex is what we call a "zero sum" game. You are making a bet with someone else about whether a currency will rise or fall. For every winner there has to be a loser. If you are smarter than the average player, you may make money. If you are dumber than the average player, you are likely to lose money. Most of the people making the "bets" in Forex are highly trained professionals at banks and other institutions. You are unlikely to beat them at this game.

Actually Forex is not quite a zero sum game. It's a slightly negative sum game as the Forex broker takes a small percentage each time in the spread. It's a small amount but over a hundred trades, it ends up being a considerable amount of money. So the average player is likely to lose money, and remember the average player is a highly trained professional and probably smarter than you.

There is a lot of luck in Forex, and if you play it, you will have some periods of time where you make money. This is usually because you are having a lucky streak, not because you have suddenly become an expert Forex player. However, most people are unwilling to admit their success is due to luck. They become convinced they have a system that works, and lose a lot of money trying to refine it.

There is very short list of traders who make money on forex while is a long list of traders who had lost their money. Therefore forex trading need sufficient practice before to trade with real money.

Patience, Fear, Greed, and lethargy (tiredness) and tension in watching a screen for hours with money riding on the outcome.
I have given an awful lot of time up to get it right in trading and have decided that if I am to be successful I need as much of an auto system as one can get.
By that I mean an auto mechanical system that will give me small positive trades, frequently and carried out on a regular basis.
The Institutional Traders have deep pockets and can ride the peaks and valleys to the extent that the Retail trader such as I can't do, so they only need to match the fundamentals.
Forget about the Holy Grail for retail traders, it isn't there, and the best system out there we'll probably neve get tor know about it.
I was once asked how long I thought it would take a newbie to get proficient in trading forex and told him two years and he nearly fell backwards, and thought that I must be backward for taking so long to learn.
Depending on your mental perceptions it could take less time I suppose if you are a natural, but the road will still be a long and lonely one I guess.

Can you really make money in Forex? Yes, but it is very difficult, the vast majority of small traders lose, but as it's a zero sum market their losses are someone elses gains.

Original poster pretty much hit it on the head for me. I join FOREX forums to read about other people's experiences, but for me, I just don't have the capital to throw away to learn how to trade profitably. I find too many things about FOREX to be, for lack of better words, suspicious.

Nothing but respect for the people that have been able to make it work for them, but I think the vast majority of folks that try to do this should probably go elsewhere.. myself included.

I stick around out of curiosity, mostly.

Humans are by default greedy and lazy. They want to make lots of money fast and with minimal effort. Trading is counter-intuitive. Traders need to be consciously aware that learning to trade is a skill and it takes a considerable time to learn it.

I can make money in forex trading. You can believe or not about this, but I'm really could make money in there.
I've been trading in liteforex broker and have many times withdraw some fund from there..
Per weeks, I can gain $120-200. It's hard but very interesting guys...

I think the automated trading is the future of forex. Eventually we will develop robots that will be much better than we in trading and making the forex decisions. But today, I don't know robot that can trade without human supervivsion

Swear, I can making money in forex. Now, i'm trading in Liteforex broker and some other. Every week i can gain more about $120. I never trade in naked chart, I always trade using EA. and Liteforex ALLOW us using EA there..

Its great that you are gaining more about $120 per week. Perhaps you are already knowledgeable trader and you know more about Forex trading. I do not trade live yet. I am still trying a demo account with GDMFX. I don't know if you know this broker or have heard about it. And per my knowledge, this broker also allows the use of EA.

Yup. Its been more than two weeks now. I am enjoying what I am doing so far. Demo account is a sort of just fun for me. You know, no real money involve so trading is not that serious. But its great to have a general grasp of the trading process so I'll be prepared when I go live.

I am with you. Actually people lose money on Forex because they try to make fast money. Forex is certainly not a short cut to become a millionaire. The thing is that there is no millionaire in the world who became millionaires without an great effort. It is the same for Forex as well.

yes forex is real and not scam business like MLM or HYIPS. Every month i can WD from liteforex broker. just small capital but fruitful.

I think about 90% of the HYIPs sites ends up taking investors money, most of these MLM and HYIP sites are ponzi or pyramid scheme where the new investors money is utilized in compensating the senior investors/members. I guess forex trading can be a legit online business where you can earn money by investing wisely.

BTW speaking about institutional traders. I believe the common perception about them is a little bit incorrect. Let's think this way. First of all, all that institutions (banks, funds etc) - they have lots and lots of people trading for them. And I think it's not possible to have all the geniuses there (the geniuses opens their own hedge funds :) ) - so they have some average strategies which are backed by that deep pockets. Also as a retail trader you have a privilege not to trade when you feel the market is bad. While insitutions HAVE to trade - they need to have good balance sheets, they need to execute their clients' requests etc. So in general you CAN earn at forex, you just need to find the benefits of being small :)

Almost every HYIP or ponzi scheme sites ends up taking investors' money and since every online business never guarantee payment safety, i guess forex trading can be a legit business online for earning money.

Hey guys. I just found a forex forum which is newly set up. It's at Forex Forums. I like it because it is mobile-friendly. Perhaps, I feel that it will be good if we also interact in a new forum. One of the reasons is because well-established forums tend to have too many information in it and it will confuse the newbies just like myself.
