Can You Define a Successful Trade?

This single question seems to be at the heart of both success and failure as a trader.

I'm curious as to what others use as their measuring rod for success. Is it accuracy, net ROI per trade, a positive MFE/MAE ratio, not getting stopped out, leaving a certain % of pips on the table in each position held, etc. etc., etc. How do you define it?

When you look in the mirror in the morning and say to yourself: 'You know something, you are a successful trader," what does that mean exactly?

Hi fmfx! I suggest a successful trade is the trade where the the trader knows the route to get promoted to earn gain from the loss. Loss may happen due to any reason, but the successful should know the idea to get back into the gain on trade!

Successful Trade is the trade which can bring profits to you.
However, Not all trades are bringing profits.

A successful trader can control his/her emotions and face up with both profit and loss in a calm and reasonable way.

Well, success means something different for everybody, so in that aspect, it's subjective. But the "basic" definition can be closing winning trades and making money. This can become more substantial with people who start to live the lifestyle they want due to trading.

you can leave the style you want by trading forex only when you are earning, not losing. So again, successfull trade brings us back to the issue of money.

actually it's more meaningful for a long term.

I define success in forex as, when a trader can generate a steady income (above average sallary) in a certain time frame, lets say two years or more, now thats success..

it's really more related with your capital and profit rate. tiny trade can never be successful.

successful must have much more money under control.

Successful trader is the trader who can make the amount of profit that he/she has planned to make.
Successful trade is the trade where the price trigger the take profit or the trade that satisfy the trader.

Define: Successful Trader.

Successful trader is tht person who know how to convert the account from $5000 to $50000 in just 5 months and some 85% of trades gives the profit. Must be well aware of risk management and have the ability to turn his loss in profit. Have the keen eye on market (fundamental and technical analysis).

Capital preservation and being able to prolong your participation in the markets you are trading. Traders will always have their winning days and losing days. That doesn't define you as a successful trader though. I think what really defines a successful trader is being able to stay in the game and keeping the capital you start with. And maybe making gains on those winning trades and being able to preserve those gains as well. Usually it seems like a disciplined trader is a successful trader.

A successful trade is in which we get some pips and not loose in market our investment. Success not means to get high profits. If we are able to protect our capital , it is growing day by day gradually . We are doing positive trading. using reasonable margin , compete with market successfully is a good trading effort.

I use Sharp Ratio, i.e. assess the size of returns above risk-free rate, adjusted for volatility of returns ("swings in equity"). There is no need to invent the wheel, imo
