Default Long/Short EMA

I was going to try testing the simplex II/III eas with different EMA settings when I noticed sometning confusing... It would seem that the long EMA value should always be the larger of the 2 values....attached is the default(I think) setting. Can someone please advise?

It shows the long EMA value = 7 and the short = 14. Seems backward to me.

Also....I am having problems getting any trades with 5 digit brokers(FxPro). does the Fix Broker need to be 10?

Thanks
Ron

Default Weekly results, week 11

Hi everyone,

This week, I traded 7 times.
6 trades closed with a profit, but the last trade of the week closed with a loss.
In total, I made 71 pips.

The only reason why I made this loss, was the fact that I just couldn't wait and jumped in too early. Basically I was too greedy, and it ruined a perfect weekly record.

Anyway, lesson learned and I am still happy about the result.
After all, 71 pips means 7,10% return on my balance. (with the leverage I'm currently using).

Bye,
Saruman

Default Weekly Results, week 12

Hi guys,

Last week, I traded 12 times.
9 trades were positive, and 3 negative.
The negative ones were bigger than the positive ones, so my result in pips is -4 pips.

However, there is still 1 trade open, and this can change the final result from slightly negative into slightly positive.

2 of the 3 negative trades were actually my own mistake. I took a signal on another time frame, and I didn't really know where to put my stop loss. So another lesson learned here: stick to your time frame (in my case, it's the 4 hrs. candlesticks).

If it weren't for those 2 stupid mistakes, I would have made 144 pips.
Another proof that trading is all about following the rules, and to keep your emotons from taking over control. :(

Happy trading,
Saruman

And that`s exactly why I don`t trade the Simplex III EA anymore: it trades at the opening of the confirming candle, not after the close ( opening of the FOLLOWING candle).

Default Weekly results, week 13

Hi guys,

Last week was not good. Maybe because it was week nr. 13 in the track record, but the result was negative.

I traded 16 times, and 7 trades closed with a loss. It was the first time I had that many losers.

Total result in pips was: -40.

I went over the trades, and I actually don't feel bad about the result, because I followed the rules exactly as I should. So it was just the market swinging up and down, and closing on the wrong side of the trade too many times.

This is part of the game, and we have to accept it. With Money Managment keeping your risk under control, this is something we can overcome. Just keep your leverage low enough, and there is enough left for next week.

Happy trading.

P.S. @Manus 168.
I have made a track record from last week in the Excell-file you can find in the attachment.

Hi SmartFX,

yes, the rules say "always trade after the candle has closed". For the cross this is clear, as during the running candle the price could reverse AND revoke the cross. But also the change of color of the AO should trigger an action only at (or after) the close of the candle showing the new color.

Very kind of you to post a new EA.

Kind regards

I am not trading with MT 4.
I just use it as a charting tool, but I trade on different platforms.

Still trading this system.
Still making money overall, although the November result was negative.

I'll post some more details when I have the time.

Hi Saruman,
You used to trade 4hr preferrably. Are there any differences between the different 4hr-cycles, i.e. candle start at NY (ldn) opening - vs- starting 1 hr after NY (Ldn) opening - vs starting 1 hr before .............. ? How do you decide WHICH cycle to use - or use just the one your broker offers? And how do you handle NEWS?

Thanks

Hi Forex37,

I have switched to a trading strategy on Daily candlesticks, and it works fine for me, but you have to be VERY patient, which most traders aren't.

Anyway, if you'd like to trade the Super simple system, i think it also works very nice, and it works on ANY time scale.

When you let the 4 hr. candles start, is not so important.
Different settings will lead to different signals, but after a longer period of time, I think it will lead to the same overall results.
So I'd suggest you use the candlesticks that are the same as the time you are actually living in. So that 16h00 on your chart = 16h00 at home. It's the easiest way to do this.

How do I handle the news?
I don't trade the news.
It is very risky and it is almost gambling.
Of course, some news can move the market big time.
That's why you need to trade with a small leverage.
Small leverage is the key to survive, along with patience and discipline.
And if you think that today the market will get stirred up too much by the upcoming news (e.g. the first friday of the month), you can decide to stay out, and wait for the next day.

Saruman

The system uses standard MetaTrader indicators.

There are no signals.

Read the first post in this thread then just follow the rules.:)

Hi all,

I trade this system according to the original rules plus checking S/R and sweet points at potential entry.

The results with cable and EUR/USD have been terrific, but unfortunately its only 30 pips per trade. Trades are less than 1 per day, as entry is only after xover - which is rare with longer trends.

So I wonder if anybody ever tried to replace that 30 pips TP with a trailing stop.

Regards

It is possible to get some good results using trade management software.

There are several available that use breakevens, trailstops and takeprofit at multi levels.

Worth a thought:p
